Portrait & Observation

Practicing portraits reminds me once again that drawing is nothing more than one thing: Observation!
Sketching a face doesn’t mean you have to include every detail you see in order to capture it. What you really need is good initial observation to find the key features that give the face its unique identity. Once you understand that, you can recreate the face you’re looking at in your own style — breaking the conventional rules along the way!
